About Desert MC

Since its formation in 1967 and incorporation in 1968, Desert MC has been a cornerstone of off-road motorcycle racing in California’s high desert. From our humble beginnings with nine original members, we’ve grown into a thriving community of approximately one hundred members, united by a passion for two wheels and the thrill of the desert.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a “Hare and Hound”?

There was recent post on dirtbiketest.com talking about hare and hound desert racing.

“A Hare & Hound is a long distance desert race typically spanning 65+ miles with mass starts in open country. The name itself originated from a paper chase game where “hares” would lay a trail for “hounds” to follow. In off-road desert racing, one of the oldest traditions is a “hare” that takes off a few minutes before the start of the first row and the “hounds” (racers) vie to be the first to catch the hare.” — Trevor Hunter December 4th, 2025 (dirtbiketest.com)

Do you offer pit support to new racers?

If you are going to race desert you should join a club. This way someone is always checking to make sure you made it back, and clubs usually help with “pit” support.

Jump over to our DMC About page, and learn more about joining Desert MC, or checkout more District 37 clubs on the D37 site.

When is the next Desert MC desert race?

The 59th annual Desert MC Winter Classic will be held the weekend of January 24th and 25th, 2026.
